Founded in 2002 in Kulai, Johor, AM PM Pharmacy has evolved from a local pharmacy into a fast-growing retail pharmacy chain in Malaysia. Today, the company operates 45 stores, employs more than 300 staff, and continues to expand its footprint nationwide with a long-term ambition to grow regionally.
AM PM Pharmacy is built around a customer-centric philosophy. Beyond dispensing medication, the brand focuses on trust, professional consultation, and long-term health outcomes. Its vision is to become the first-choice pharmacy for everyone, everywhere - making healthcare simpler, more accessible, and more reliable.
As the organization scaled, leadership recognized that sustaining this vision would require a robust operational foundation capable of supporting growth, complexity, and real-time decision-making.
Challenges
AM PM operates under a hybrid B2B and B2C business model, combining retail pharmacy operations with complex purchasing, warehousing, and supply chain flows. As the number of stores increased, operational complexity grew significantly across procurement, inventory management, distribution, and point-of-sale activities.

Historically, AM PM relied on standalone systems:
- POS systems operated independently from inventory systems
- Reporting and reconciliation were handled manually
While sufficient at a smaller scale, this fragmented setup created major limitations:
- Data was not consolidated and lacked real-time accuracy
- Manual aggregation increased errors and delayed decisions
- Inventory shortages and extended customer waiting times became frequent
- Systems struggled to support high concurrent usage across multiple stores
Continuing with separate systems was no longer sustainable. AM PM needed an integrated platform that could centralize data, support pharmacy-specific requirements, and scale alongside the business.
Solution
To address these challenges, AM PM selected Odoo ERP as its core enterprise platform and partnered with A1 Consulting as its implementation and transformation partner.
A1 Consulting is a regional ERP consulting firm specializing in Odoo implementations for multi-entity, multi-store, and data-intensive businesses. With deep experience in retail, distribution, and supply chain operations, A1 Consulting specializes in designing data-centric operating models that align technology with tangible business outcomes.
For AM PM, A1 Consulting approached the project not as a software replacement but as a fundamental redesign of the operating backbone, positioning data as the central asset across the organization.
Key elements of the solution included:
- A single source of truth
Odoo was implemented as a centralized platform integrating procurement, retail sales, inventory, supply chain, customer management, HR, and finance, ensuring data consistency and real-time visibility across all stores. - End-to-end B2B and B2C process integration
Purchasing, warehouse operations, store replenishment, and retail sales were redesigned into a continuous workflow. Pharmacy-specific requirements — including batch tracking, expiry dates, regulatory compliance, and commission rules — were embedded directly into daily operations. - Optimized POS experience for pharmacy retail
Odoo POS was configured to support high transaction volumes with a clean and intuitive interface, enabling fast service with minimal training while maintaining accuracy. - Proactive inventory and replenishment management
Real-time sales and inventory data drive automated replenishment rules, reducing stock-outs while preventing excess inventory and capital lock-up. - Centralized customer engagement and loyalty programs
Promotions, vouchers, and loyalty programs are managed consistently across all stores. Customer profiles, including health-related consultation data, are stored centrally to support personalized engagement. - Real-time reporting and executive dashboards
Management teams have immediate access to live dashboards and analytical reports, enabling faster, data-driven decisions. - Localization and custom development by A1 Consulting
Custom modules, including E-Invoicing, were developed to comply with local regulations and support AM PM’s operational requirements.
The implementation was delivered over 1.5 years, with the first store going live after three months and 35 stores fully operational on Odoo within six months.
Results
The transformation delivered tangible improvements across the organization:
- Reduced stock shortages and waiting times, with customer wait times for non-available items shortened from approximately two weeks to just a few days
- Improved operational efficiency, as store staff worked with clearer workflows, faster transactions, and accurate real-time data
- Stronger customer engagement and loyalty, driven by centralized loyalty programs and personalized consultation
- Full real-time visibility for management, enabling confident, timely decision-making across stores, regions, and teams
- Measurable impact from promotions and campaigns, supported by data-driven evaluation and optimization
- A scalable foundation for future growth, ready to support new stores, new business models, and regional expansion
Conclusion
AM PM Pharmacy’s transformation demonstrates that successful growth in retail pharmacy is no longer driven solely by store expansion, but by the ability to manage complexity through data. By adopting Odoo as a unified ERP platform and partnering with A1 Consulting to build a data-centric operating model, AM PM has moved from fragmented operations to a connected, insight-driven organization.
The result is more than operational efficiency. AM PM now possesses a strategic foundation that enables faster decisions, better customer experiences, and sustainable growth at scale. As the company continues to expand across Malaysia and beyond, its ERP platform serves not just as a system of record but as a strategic enabler for long-term competitiveness in the healthcare retail sector.
